Safety & Sexual Misconduct Policy

The Jewish Community of Iceland – Beit Tovah Chabad is committed to providing a safe, respectful, protected and welcoming environment for all participants.

We have zero tolerance for any form of inappropriate behavior.

1. Prohibited Conduct

Any form of sexual misconduct or inappropriate behavior is strictly prohibited. This includes:

  • Unwanted or inappropriate physical contact

  • Touching that makes someone uncomfortable

  • Sexual comments, jokes, or gestures

  • Comments about a person’s body or appearance that may be perceived as inappropriate or suggestive

  • Harassment (verbal or physical)

  • Boundary violations, including private or secret interactions

Speech must remain respectful at all times. Comments, jokes, or remarks that could be perceived as inappropriate, suggestive, or demeaning are not acceptable.

Individuals are expected to respect personal space and social boundaries, including recognizing when someone prefers distance or does not wish to engage.

If you are unsure whether something is appropriate, you should refrain.

This applies to all settings: programs, classes, events, synagogue services, and informal interactions.

What matters is how the behavior is experienced, not the intent behind it.

2. Expectations & Boundaries

All staff, volunteers, and participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect and sensitivity

  • Maintain appropriate physical and personal boundaries

Adults may not be alone in a private or closed setting with a minor.

All interactions with minors must take place in open, visible, or otherwise supervised environments.

3. Reporting Concerns

If you experience or witness behavior that feels inappropriate, we strongly encourage you to report it.

Reports can be made to:

  • Rabbi Avraham Feldman

  • Mushky Feldman

  • On-site security personnel

  • Local police or relevant authorities

Reports will be handled with sensitivity and seriousness.

You do not need to be certain that a violation occurred in order to report a concern.

Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith is strictly prohibited.

4. Response

All reports will be taken seriously.

The community will:

  • Act promptly to ensure safety

  • Review and document the concern

  • Take appropriate action based on the nature and severity of the situation

Actions may include:

  • Suspension from participation for a defined period of time

  • Restriction of access to certain spaces, programs, or activities

  • Requirement of supervision during participation

  • Long-term removal from programs and premises

When necessary or when required by law, appropriate authorities will be contacted.

Any concerns involving minors will be handled with particular urgency and in accordance with applicable legal reporting requirements.

5. Commitment

Creating a safe environment is a shared responsibility.

We are committed to:

  • Listening

  • Acting responsibly

  • Protecting the dignity and safety of every individual in our community
